This film, centered around a disturbed individual pursuing a therapist’s clientele in Los Angeles, appeared five months after “Friday the 13th” and aligns with earlier movies like "Haunts," "Schizo," "The Toolbox Murders,” and "Don't Go in the House"—all drawing inspiration from Hitchcock’s “Psycho.” Marianna Hill, who was thirty-eight years old during filming but still appeared youthful, delivers a convincing performance as the central character. Viewers familiar with her work may recognize her from playing Dr. Helen Noel in the “Dagger of the Mind” episode of Star Trek and the woman subjected to abuse by The Stranger in "High Plains Drifter." The initial portion introduces two potential suspects—Klaus Kinski and Christopher Lloyd—though the story later reveals two additional possibilities. I appreciated the emphasis on psychological elements and the observations they provided, including instances of unfounded anxieties. For example, one character understandably objects to being discussed at group therapy sessions, a situation made somewhat ironic when another patient points out that it’s improper to speak negatively about someone absent to respond. The therapist clearly benefits financially from their practice; however, it raises questions about how effectively they can help others if their own personal life is unstable. Donna Wilkes, a small-statured brunette, stands out as the doctor's troubled daughter, and Craig Wasson appears as the protagonist’s former partner. Unfortunately, the engaging first hour proves to be stronger than the resolution in the latter portion, which felt somewhat predictable. The film has a running time of one hour and twenty-nine minutes and was filmed in Los Angeles, with the mansion scenes taking place in Silver Lake. GRADE: B-
