The film features an octopus wearing a hat and sporting a mustache—a detail that alone makes viewing it essential. I haven’t had the opportunity to experience the visual novel on which this is based, so my assessment comes from someone unfamiliar with the source material. It's a genuinely gorgeous movie, boasting character designs as distinctive and imaginative as those found in "The Nightmare Before Christmas" or "Coraline." Right from the opening scenes, it’s clear how much care went into creating a visually impressive experience. The film is full of vibrant colors, interesting light effects, and a wide array of designs for plants, animals, and people. A slightly jerky animation style adds to the feeling of stop-motion artistry. The narrative isn't groundbreaking, but it’s well-executed, with gentle themes about environmental exploitation and the importance of embracing individuality over striving for flawlessness. The characters are endearing—Arkie and her father particularly stand out—and they’re brought to life by excellent voice actors. It evokes emotion without being overly sentimental; instead, it's mostly a charming and wondrous experience. I enjoyed it; even the visuals and voice acting alone would be enough to warrant a recommendation. Someone should probably clarify how “draining the sun” is supposed to function, but I’m willing to accept that explanation for now. Let’s stick with conventional solar panels rather than these sun-draining devices, alright? 😁
