What possessed them to put color in _Scarlet Street_? This is a movie where the shadows, the rain, and even the dirty streets absolutely have to be black and white to make its somber, depressing feeling stronger. The lack of color isn’t just about looks; it's central to how the story gets darker and how hopeless things are for the people in it. Without that sharp contrast, it doesn't have the same impact—it's what makes it a classic noir film. Changing it to color feels like an insult, taking away its noir feel and diminishing Fritz Lang’s original intent. That vision deserves to be kept safe and treated with care. I was fortunate enough to locate a copy of _Scarlet Street_ that hadn’t been messed up with this pointless coloring process. In black and white, the film finally conveyed that dark, heavy atmosphere that color could never achieve, letting Lang's movie resonate as he planned it to. And naturally, there's one scene Tarantino would appreciate.
