The premise alone should have raised some red flags: a man facing death receives an offer of a miraculous cure—for the small price of $250,000. "Kramer," portrayed by Tobin Bell, should’ve recognized the warning signs when he traveled to Mexico and realized he'd been taken advantage of. The situation quickly spirals into a scheme so callous that it prompts him to seek out a bloody form of retribution against those responsible. What follows is easily one of the most gripping horror-thrillers I’ve encountered recently. The group claiming to be medical professionals are relentlessly hunted, captured, and then subjected to some truly disturbing contraptions in what feels like a savage reimagining of an "Adventure Game." Survival will demand significant losses for anyone hoping to make it out alive. Things become even more complicated with the arrival of “Parker,” played by Steven Brand, another person swindled by their operation who is also seeking vengeance. The film doesn't shy away from violence and brutality, but thankfully avoids excessive gore, allowing viewers to fill in the blanks as body parts are dismembered. The limited amount of dialogue works well, and the musical score refrains from cheap jump scares—instead relying on what we see and imagine. There is a plot twist at the conclusion, though it feels underdeveloped and diminishes the overall impact somewhat. Despite that shortcoming, this film stands out among recent releases in its category and deserves to be experienced in a darkened theater for a couple of hours.
