It begins powerfully, vividly illustrating the horrors and revulsion of warfare. However, the narrative then veers into an illogical situation—a mission to save one individual amidst widespread loss, framed around his being the final member of his family. I appreciated the connections between the characters; the film’s strength lies in demonstrating how fragile everyone is and that death can come unexpectedly. The score isn't perfect though, as the movie noticeably promotes an American perspective on war—presenting our forces as benevolent, all-knowing, and righteous while portraying others negatively. If I could overlook the flimsy justification for the characters’ quest, the adventure itself would be enjoyable, and if I disregarded its social commentary, it would even be a better film overall. Sadly, those elements are difficult to dismiss, which is why my rating settles at 70 out of 100.
