Samaritan is a straightforward action movie, which isn’t automatically a negative thing. A frequent issue with contemporary filmmaking seems to be this compulsion to experiment and sometimes insert social commentary into something intended purely for enjoyment. The film adheres closely to a familiar and predictable action movie structure. It attempted a surprise that I anticipated fairly quickly, but it didn't detract from the experience.
