"Ben" (Lewis Pullman), an acclaimed writer, goes back to his hometown to explore memories from his past, uncovering a disturbing situation connected to what locals call "the Lot." The focus seems to be on the neglected "Marsten" house, where a mysterious delivery arrived at its basement just before a child disappeared. Fortunately for him, he's joined by "Susan" (Makenzie Leigh), a local doctor named "Cody" (Alfre Woodard) who is initially doubtful, and the resourceful young man "Mark" (Jordan Preston Carter). As things become clearer, they need to figure out how to survive. Unfortunately, this film doesn’t offer anything fresh—it feels like an average production from Hammer Films and reminiscent of the "Penny Dreadful" series from a decade ago. The performances are subpar, no better than the overly detailed script. With the possible exception of Carter, who at least seems engaged, everyone else follows a very predictable path leading to an ending that doesn't provide anything new. While originality might be difficult in this kind of story, it’s hard not to wonder why anyone would attempt it. The film lacks any real sense of threat or danger; there aren't any shocking special effects or disturbing scenes of violence. It plays out more like a collection of unfunny comedic bits set against an unsettling backdrop where simply switching on a light or avoiding the house altogether might have been preferable. The movie drags on too long and takes far too much time to get started, and all that comes to mind is a wish for David Soul’s return. It's typical television fare for Halloween—not worth going to see at the cinema.
