This adaptation of "Salem’s Lot" generally moves along at a good speed and remains easy to watch, frequently achieving a notable level of success in its own right. Still, it struggles when attempting the more unsettling sequences; these moments feel dreamlike, reminiscent of what made the initial story so captivating and unforgettable. While each of those scenes is reproduced, they don't have quite the same impact. A significant factor here is the absence of Harry Sukman’s exceptional score, which previously amplified and heightened their effect. Consequently, events like Marjorie Glick rising from a mortician's table or Mike Ryerson’s return from beyond the grave simply fail to generate the required fear and suspense in this new version, reinforcing the idea that Tobe Hooper’s 1979 "Salem's Lot" remains the definitive example of horror.
