The film adapts the book of the same name, recounting Tora’s experience as an American surgeon who relocated to a secluded Scottish island with her spouse following a miscarriage, seeking a fresh start. As she settles into her new life, she uncovers deeply buried secrets. Her efforts to reveal these secrets are met with resistance and place her in considerable danger. The subsequent events unfold predictably, leading to a somewhat anticipated resolution. It adheres closely to the standard thriller blueprint. While the narrative, characters, and settings felt original, the overall progression and final outcome were easily foreseeable. Despite this, it’s a reasonably well-made film with an agreeable rhythm. Some of the coastal shots seemed reminiscent of those in 'Sing Street,' although that was set in Ireland, creating some uncertainty about whether the scenery was actually Scottish or Irish. Radha Mitchell delivered an adequate performance, and the supporting actors weren't given sufficient opportunities to showcase their abilities. The filmmaking itself wasn’t particularly remarkable but also not flawed. Aside from the predictable storyline, it’s suitable for a single viewing, though I wouldn’t recommend seeking it out after having already seen something better. _6/10_
