Alain, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, finds himself drifting through life while caring for his young son, Sam, played by Armand Verdure. Their journey takes them to Antibes, where they’ll reside with his sister and he intends to find work. He's a hardworking man—not involved in drugs or alcohol—and secures a job as a nightclub bouncer. To make extra money, he participates in bare-knuckle fights, managed by Martial, portrayed by Bouli Lanners. A serious incident at the local marine park leads him to Stéphanie, played by Marion Cotillard. This accident has left her without her legs, and gradually they begin to connect. He assists her with getting around, and a trip to the beach allows her to experience swimming—a liberating moment for her. With the help of prosthetic limbs, she gains more mobility and seems happier, and their connection deepens physically. Initially appearing to be purely sexual, the relationship evolves as Stéphanie starts managing Alain’s boxing career, leading them both to question whether a casual arrangement is what they truly desire. Throughout this, Alain also navigates his responsibilities with his son, and the story concludes somewhat ambiguously in a situation that nearly results in a crisis for their family dynamic. Not much overtly happens within the narrative; it's more about the gradual development of the characters, which proves quite absorbing. Both individuals have imperfections, and it’s through their developing connection that they begin to examine themselves and consider what is important. Cotillard delivers an entirely believable performance, and her co-star fulfills all expectations for his less detailed but still affecting role. The film possesses a sense of realism; the story—though amplified for dramatic effect—feels authentic. While some minor storylines feel unnecessary and somewhat distracting, it remains a well-crafted and worthwhile narrative.
