It’s hard to believe that by 2019 Nicolas Cage would have resolved his financial difficulties with the IRS, so what could have led him and a similarly troubled Laurence Fishburne to participate in this low-quality crime story? They are sent by their bosses to determine why their cocaine shipments have been interrupted. The investigation leads them on a long journey from Mexico through the United States, ending in Canada. During their pursuit, they find that not only is their profitable operation being interfered with, but the drugs themselves are being diluted with harmful ingredients that are killing customers—certainly bad for business! Thankfully, there isn't much dialogue to criticize; instead, it relies on visuals and imagination, which unfortunately fail completely. The presentation is lifeless and dull, and despite its length of just over ninety minutes, it feels like an eternity until the predictable and uninspired ending arrives. What’s somewhat intriguing is observing how the price increases dramatically as the production process evolves into a distribution network, with each person involved taking their share; however, overall this is a truly disappointing film that represents nobody's best effort—neither in front of nor behind the camera. It has moments of authenticity and harshness, but an attempt to secure a more mainstream rating results in a generally uninspired experience. I wouldn’t recommend it.
