A young man is recruiting other children to participate in online poker games. The university president objects and threatens expulsion. The boy (Justin Timberlake) gathers all his funds to gamble on poker, with the expectation of winning and securing his future. Predictably, he ends up losing everything. However, it’s not due to a lack of skill; instead, there's a figure named Ivan (Ben Affleck) who operates these online casinos and manipulates inexperienced players. The logical response would be to travel to Costa Rica and challenge this individual regarding his fraudulent operation. I certainly wouldn’t have done that, but I’m trying to illustrate my point. Upon arriving in Costa Rica, he quickly finds himself in a dangerous situation, pursued by Ivan, a man called Herrera, and the FBI, naturally. The storyline is absurd, as you probably anticipated. It lacks coherence, and the actors seem lost as well; honestly, I can’t fault them because they likely don't grasp the script either. I was searching for something positive to latch onto, and I believe I discovered it: the cinematography. The film contains some striking visuals reminiscent of a James Bond production, and the narrative shares similarities with recent Bond films, which isn't exactly a compliment since I’m not particularly fond of those movies. Ultimately, avoid this movie. Ben Affleck is an actor who has been given too much credit; he’s not worth your time. Mr. Timberlake should have ended his career after The Social Network and would have remained at the peak of his success. This film... it's a waste of time. If you enjoy poker and are seeking a quality movie about the game, watch Rounders or even 21 instead.
