Run Hide Fight possesses an unsettling level of oversimplification. It distills a deeply layered issue—one tangled with poverty, inequality, ingrained violence, and other factors—into a rudimentary structure. The portrayal of perpetrators in school shooting events depicts them as violent, immature, occasionally mentally unwell, and essentially self-absorbed individuals. While these characteristics might be present in some cases, the reality is far more intricate. I found the approach to be awkward and somewhat worrying, resulting in a story that not only missed the mark but also felt, to me, like an exploitation of a sensitive topic. The acting is solid. This film doesn't typically appeal to my tastes, but I’m a fan of Thomas Jane, so I decided to watch it. He delivers a strong performance, though his role is largely on the sidelines; Isabel May carries the main part. May gives a sharp-witted and tense portrayal, ultimately offering a sense of optimism as a character reminiscent of Rambo or John McClane from Die Hard. The film’s rhythm is effective, and there's enough action to maintain momentum. However, given the gravity of the subject matter, I believe it warrants a more thoughtful and nuanced treatment—the kind exemplified by Michael Moore’s documentary, Bowling for Columbine (2002). 6/10.
