I experienced a strange sense of familiarity watching it. It reminded me of another movie I’ve seen not long ago, something about a taxi driver and an aspiring actress. What stood out here was Beatty's involvement; he’s come out of retirement to direct and also appear in a significant role. He's eighty years old but still has plenty of energy. It felt like a wonderful return for him, although the film itself doesn't entirely succeed. Despite being enjoyable, especially because of the excellent acting from everyone involved, it falls short somehow. The movie centers on Howard Hughes, though I’m not sure if it’s meant to be a true biography or just loosely based on his life. The setting is Hollywood and its film industry. The narrative focuses on three people: a driver, a director, and an actress hoping for her big break. There's a sort of triangular dynamic at play, but it isn't really a romantic story; instead, it’s driven by drama related to their careers. The storytelling frequently shifts to Hughes' other business dealings as well. Ultimately, the plot circles back and leads us toward an ending. The screenplay moves at a deliberate pace. I am accustomed to this style of narration, so I didn’t struggle to get through it, but others might find it difficult, particularly if they aren’t interested in the subject matter. And its length exceeds two hours. It felt like everything that needed to be said was included; trimming some parts could have improved the film's pacing. Beatty seems very aware of details – I remember what happened at the Oscars, he recognized a mistake but his colleague announced the winner too quickly. I’m hoping he makes another movie soon and proves all those critics wrong. _5/10_
