Do you recall Henry Goulding’s "Assassin Club" from 2023? Combining that film with the predictable elements found in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” (2005) gives a decent approximation of this forgettable action movie. Kaley Cuoco plays "Emma," who is married to "Dave" (David Oyelowo), but she’s keeping something from him: she works for an international organization that eliminates people for money, and she's trying to leave. This triggers the organization to target her. Simultaneously, Emma and Dave choose to celebrate their anniversary by meeting at a hotel bar as if they were strangers—a chance for some old-school flirting and several vodka martinis. Then Bill Nighy appears as an apparently single older man attempting to charm her, but he’s not what he seems, leading to a somewhat amusing situation. Unfortunately, the story then devolves into a typical chase narrative filled with predictable escapes that eventually involve her unsuspecting husband, their children, and some unresolved issues from Emma's past brought on by Connie Nielsen. The antagonists are consistently inept, unable to perform even basic actions, and her fighting abilities become reminiscent of "Kung Fu"—but lacking any intrigue or finesse. The performances feel wooden, and the dialogue seems as though it required several more drinks to write before being pulled from a very basic film school script. I can’t help but wonder how many other lethal operatives are hiding in the residential areas of typical American towns! It's adequate background noise while you do chores—it doesn't really demand your undivided attention.
