The people involved were inexperienced and eager, and seemed completely lost. I may not have the youthful perspective Nick Leeson references in the quote that begins this review, but I was hoping for an enjoyable movie and had no idea what to expect! Rogue Trader recounts how Nick Leeson’s actions led to the collapse of Barings Merchant Bank, a significant financial institution in London. Based on Leeson's autobiography, it misses the opportunity to offer meaningful understanding of practices like insider trading. What we get instead is confusing jargon from traders, direction reminiscent of newspaper layouts from James Dearden, and acting—with the exception of Ewan McGregor’s portrayal of Leeson—that feels unconvincing. People familiar with this world will probably find something worthwhile, but for those watching to be informed while being entertained, it's a disappointing financial story. 5/10
