Rocky tells a motivating tale about an average person who gets presented with an extraordinary chance. I will admit that the film starts off rough; the conversations feel stiff and unnatural at times. However, roughly twenty minutes in, it finds its rhythm, and I was completely engrossed until the credits rolled. What stands out most to me is the film’s sense of realism; it examines a large and intimidating boxer like Rocky and delves into his feelings and doubts. A particularly memorable moment occurs when he's lying in bed next to Adrian and suddenly understands that he can’t actually win this fight. It was an extremely honest display from him, and it really resonated with me. As I mentioned earlier, the dialogue is quite uneven, notably during the scene at Rocky's home with Adrian. It felt strange watching it because she comes across as reluctant to be there, but then instantly seems deeply fond of him. That shift was odd and unsettling. Conversely, in certain scenes, the writing is excellent, which really helps the actors deliver strong performances. But when the dialogue falters, the quality of the acting suffers. Nevertheless, this movie gets more aspects right than wrong regarding its script. From a technical standpoint, the film truly shines. The music is superb, featuring one of the most recognizable songs in all of cinema. The camerawork is also outstanding, with some striking visuals of the city and very imaginative perspectives used during the training montages. Ultimately, this movie met every expectation it had, and I appreciated spending time with these characters. Score: 98% | Verdict: Masterpiece
