How did things go from being so promising to falling apart like they did? *** This review contains spoilers *** Rocky is the current World Champion and easily defeating every challenger who steps into the ring. However, Clubber Lang, a young and ambitious boxer hoping to take his place, appears on the scene. This film offers generally agreeable entertainment for those interested in Sly Stallone’s Rocky Balboa series. A new fighter enters the story, played with energy by Mr. T—a surprising development that really affects Rocky, alongside some personal tragedy when his trainer and friend Mickey (Burgess Meredith) passes away; Stallone delivers a convincing portrayal of grief. Carl Weathers returns as Apollo Creed, but this time he’s there to prepare Rocky for a match against the formidable Clubber Lang. However, Rocky seems unenthusiastic about it! Will he rediscover that fire within? Naturally, he will, and we're then treated to the expected training sequences and an intense fight to determine the victor. It feels like familiar filmmaking with predictable acting, although it’s frequently quite thrilling. 7/10
