This was genuinely enjoyable. It's a gangster film featuring a strong group of actors who playfully challenge conventions while still managing to maintain an engaging level of intensity. As is typical for Guy Ritchie’s work, there’s quite a bit of dialogue, and this particular movie has a narrative that can be frustrating at times. Tom Wilkinson, playing "Lenny," performs well as the crime boss who arranges – and profits from – most significant property deals in London; he seems to be doing very nicely for himself. A Russian billionaire enters the picture and enlists Lenny, along with his underhanded but effective associate "Archy" (Mark Strong), to assist him with a large-scale development project. Things begin to unravel around this point, and it gradually becomes clear that there’s more going on than initially meets the eye. There are several amusing side stories involving Gerard Butler, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Thandie Newton, all of whom have some involvement in at least part of the action; Toby Kebbell is also excellent as his irresponsible, rockstar, drug-addicted son "Johnny Quid." The script is sharp and funny, and the violence leans more toward a fantastical depiction—occasionally even bordering on bizarre—rather than being overtly graphic. Overall, it's a very entertaining movie experience, including some memorable details like killer lobsters and a brief appearance by Hugh Grant!
