The narrative centers on Peter Weller portraying "Murphy," a police officer who fails to survive his initial shift in Detroit’s chaotic environment. Fortunately, the “Omni” corporation had already devised strategies for a technologically advanced law enforcement officer—and he is conveniently integrated into an impressive, albeit somewhat awkward, suit of armor that allows him to perform his new responsibilities without risk of harm. However, it doesn't take long before he uncovers a network of deceit. The question then becomes whether he can persevere, protect his colleague "Anne" (Nancy Allen), and stop the nefarious scheme possibly connected to those who abandoned him earlier. Numerous action sequences and special effects unfold as the story progresses toward its predictable resolution. While it moves at a brisk tempo and features some rather unremarkable lines, this is all fairly standard fare that I considered acceptable but now feels quite out of step with contemporary tastes. Weller delivers an adequate performance, though I would have preferred Arnold to bring some personality and levity to what is otherwise a somewhat stiff and formulaic story. It’s easy enough to watch, but it didn't particularly excite me.
