This 1955 film remains impressive in both its narrative and how it was made. While things like security systems and visual effects have certainly progressed since then, the movie still feels like an example of cinematic excellence. The only aspect shown in Rififi that isn't accurate anymore is the idea of a code among criminals. My grandfather’s generation believed thieves—perhaps those involved with the Mafia—operated by certain principles, what the film refers to as "the rules." Nowadays, it seems criminals, including people in positions like politicians and corporate leaders, lack any sense of ethics. If that makes the movie feel dated, then so be it; it's still a great action film!
