It’s possible everyone’s worrying about something else entirely. Responses to this third installment featuring Vin Diesel’s science fiction anti-hero have been quite varied, as expected. To be honest, it's not exactly a film you need to rush out and see, and it bears a strong resemblance to *Pitch Black*, the initial and arguably best movie in the Riddick series. Nevertheless, there is plenty of enjoyable science fiction action here. The story finds Riddick abandoned on an unforgiving planet, where he must contend with some alien beings. His only chance of escape depends on signaling his location, which draws two ships to him. Each ship’s crew has their own motives for wanting to seize the mysterious prisoner... What follows is a visually appealing science fiction adventure filled with both human and extraterrestrial threats. Action sequences and dramatic moments are frequent, and Diesel delivers a performance that's impressively strong, tough, rough, and intimidating. The special effects aren't always top-notch, and of course, you have to overlook some plot conveniences if you’re looking for an enjoyable film to watch with snacks and drinks. 7/10
