Reno on Ricki and the Flash

7/10 · Jul 4, 2016

It’s about confronting what you’ve left behind while pursuing your ambitions. This movie deserves far more recognition than it has received; it isn’t a masterpiece, but the negative criticism seems excessive. It features a notably uncommon appearance by Meryl Streep, who undergoes a complete transformation to portray a rock star, and her collaboration with her daughter is another memorable aspect of the film. The supporting cast also delivers strong performances. The soundtrack works well, blending emotional moments with comedic elements. The narrative centers on an aging musician who didn’t achieve widespread fame. She previously sacrificed her family for her musical aspirations and now returns after learning that her daughter needs her. The story explores her difficult journey, compounded by the fact that she isn't readily accepted due to her past choices. It’s about making amends and observing how time alters things as the story unfolds. The film touches on a universal truth: people are driven to pursue their dreams regardless of obstacles. Here, it depicts a woman striving for her goals, but facing conflict with her family. The reality is that not everyone achieves success, and this movie examines how someone copes with the mistakes made along the way. It’s genuinely a well-crafted story, yet critics dismissed it with weak justifications. I found it to be an enjoyable film, certainly not among the worst, so if you appreciate music, I suggest giving it a chance. 7/10
