The experience would have been considerably better if not for the really awful dubbing in the version I watched; once you adjust to that, it's not terrible. Oliver Reed plays Cipriani, a former police officer who is now a prison governor, and his wife has been taken. To get her back, he needs to set up the transportation of one of his inmates, Milo (Fabio Testi), to an outside group. He does this as instructed, but that’s really just the beginning of their troubles as they attempt to figure out who wants what from whom and why. There's a good amount of action, though it has more depth than you might initially assume. The plot is genuinely engaging, and Reed portrays his character well—a man with some principles struggling between years of service to his nation and rescuing his wife from criminals who seem connected to powerful people in both the Italian and French governments. It borrows heavily from other films; a Clint Eastwood or Gene Hackman could easily have played the part, but I think that actually highlights how good Reed’s performance is—it's quite strong. The ending felt a bit underwhelming, but overall I did find it enjoyable to watch. It just needs someone to fix the sound.
