"Alex" (played by Johannes Krisch) embodies the kind of individual you’d want to steer clear of! It seems that misfortune follows him wherever he goes – a pattern that becomes strikingly evident when he and his girlfriend "Tamara" (Irina Potapenko) decide they've had enough of the brothel where they both work. He doesn't participate in the same way she does, if that wasn’t clear already, and their plan to escape the country involves robbing a bank. However, he inadvertently left the getaway car – and her – parked illegally, drawing the attention of a police officer (Andreas Lust). They leave him sprawled on the ground as they make their escape, but he's still capable of hitting his target, leading to a tragic event that establishes the film’s overall mood as "Alex" wrestles with thoughts of retribution. A surprising connection arises when it turns out his father is acquainted with the officer’s wife, "Susanne" (Ursula Strauss). From there, you can likely anticipate what happens next: “Alex's” initial desire for revenge transforms into a more complicated and romantic entanglement, complete with numerous intimate scenes. Despite the violent subject matter, actual violence is surprisingly scarce; instead, it’s an emotional journey as the man confronts unexpected grief and regret within a gritty, drug-filled setting. The limited dialogue enhances the intensely portrayed characters of "Alex" and "Susanne," and Johannes Thanheiser's "Hausner" provides some welcome appearances, with his own strained relationship with his son ("Alex") developing in a touching way. Around thirty minutes into the film, you begin to notice something’s missing: music. The soundtrack consists solely of natural sounds, which further concentrates attention on the cinematography and performances. The movie does feel drawn out – for example, watching someone split logs goes on longer than necessary – and could probably benefit from losing twenty minutes without disrupting the story's rhythm. Nevertheless, it remains a distinctive thriller that is worth seeing.
