The movie centers on Jonathan, a man past middle age who’s been emotionally scarred by a former relationship, and it starts with him employing a male sex worker for a journey to the Grand Canyon. He intends to reconstruct a memory he had with his ex-girlfriend, meticulously replicating even the photographs from that time. While the initial concept seems fragile, any skepticism quickly fades thanks to the performances of the two main actors. Tuc Watkins portrays Jonathan with a quiet intensity, conveying his suffering through his gaze and occasional restrained reactions. Brandon, considerably younger, also possesses an unexpected emotional strength developed simply by navigating life’s challenges. These well-developed characters allow Nick Corporon to present a strikingly honest depiction of how these men discover solace in one another while grappling with their own personal losses. The film utilizes beautiful, handheld camera work that shifts between close-up intimacy and sweeping landscapes, drawing viewers into the inner lives of these two individuals and restoring faith in the ability of people to mend each other’s wounds. It isn't flawless, but it is definitely worth seeing.
