It’s true that Resident Evil isn't flawless, but it manages to be better than a lot of other films within the zombie and video game categories. Being the initial installment of a total of six movies, Resident Evil maintains its focus on horror elements more so than subsequent installments do. The film consistently aims to create suspense and anxiety through zombies, creatures, dangerous lasers, and sudden startling moments. Considering that most adaptations of video games tend to be disappointing films better suited for direct-to-streaming release, Resident Evil delivered a well-constructed plot alongside exciting action sequences, likable characters, unpleasant zombies, and generally enjoyable horror elements.
