My experience with this film matched my initial hopes pretty closely. I anticipated a movie packed with intense action sequences and plenty of gore, and that's essentially what I received. A strong script and elements like that? Apparently, the producers considered requests for those things to be unnecessary details. It currently has a 5.6 rating on IMDb and a 60% user score on TMDb, which seems fair. Naturally, there are always reviewers giving it one star and declaring it the worst movie ever made. That’s just ridiculous; these people clearly haven't encountered truly terrible films. Milla Jovovich reprises her role as the tough zombie-killing character from the previous installments. While she unfortunately lost some of her enhanced T-virus abilities in a prior film, her ability to inflict damage and withstand attacks still feels almost superhuman. It’s unrealistic, but entertaining to watch. Despite my earlier remarks about the script, there is actually a basic plot intended simply to move the story from one point to another, with as much violence and special effects as possible crammed in between. I did find the tanks they created visually appealing, though they were essentially just eye candy like in Mad Max. Seriously, a tank covered in ventilation shafts so all you had to do was pour gasoline on it and light a match? It’s pretty silly. There were other aspects too that prioritized appearance over realism. For example, a particular ventilation fan used to facilitate certain events. Who would design a ventilation fan with multiple rings of blades? It's supposed to be a ventilation fan, not a jet engine turbine. Oh right, my mistake, otherwise they wouldn’t have needed to spend so much time crawling through it. I did appreciate the various mutated zombies as well; the flying creature at the beginning and end was particularly impressive. Some viewers seemed bothered by the quick cuts between scenes, but I didn't find it too distracting. It didn’t add anything significant either, though. Regarding the ending, it was alright, I suppose. The conclusion itself wasn't very surprising; it was let down by some nonsensical stuff involving Dr. Isaacs. Apparently, an exploding grenade only results in a small amount of damage when the director wants to keep the villain around for more scenes. It felt lazy and poorly written. Overall, I enjoyed the movie as much as I thought I would. It’s an acceptable film; good for a dose of zombie carnage and Milla Jovovich (okay, so I'm a guy with conventional preferences, you know). It could have been significantly better, but it wasn't terribly bad either.
