Reptile doesn’t break any new ground, but it manages to be an enjoyable movie anyway. The story feels very familiar, drawing heavily from the well-worn territory of gritty American crime narratives. However, what prevents it from being completely forgettable is its commitment to the core idea and believable acting from everyone involved. The understated, traditional way the characters are developed brought to mind British or Scandinavian television shows, where you see people living mostly normal lives. Ultimately, while Reptile isn’t introducing anything entirely new, its realistic portrayal of character development provides a bit more for audiences compared to standard American crime dramas that follow predictable patterns.
