Jean-Claude Van Damme is back in a familiar situation—playing dual roles. Despite its less than stellar standing, the film manages to be entertaining, providing viewers with the kind of over-the-top action and strange scientific concepts that many expect from a Van Damme movie. The story involves Van Damme portraying an arsonist who constantly evades law enforcement. When scientists propose cloning him as a solution, it sparks a chain of events where the clone struggles to understand his existence while both he and veteran police officer Jake Riley (Michael Rooker) pursue the unstable killer. The film is undeniably silly but enjoyable, boosted by Rooker’s solid performance alongside Van Damme's two distinct portrayals. The action sequences are well-designed and thrilling; director Ringo Lam seems to understand what makes a Van Damme film successful. It might not be among his very best work, but it rises above the average and is worth seeing for those who enjoy that sort of thing. 6/10
