It’s an acceptable film, though unlikely to be rewatched, but might appeal to those who enjoy time-shift loop stories like "Groundhog's Day." I was pleased to discover another movie centered around a time-loop concept, especially with Amanda Palmer appearing in it. She deserves more recognition as an actress; her performance in “Silicon Valley” probably suffered from having a poorly written part. The film functions similarly to "Groundhog's Day," but focuses on characters struggling with addiction. While the protagonist of the earlier movie was selfish, he wasn’t inherently bad, but this one seems to draw inspiration from "Chronicle" and embraces a philosophy that power justifies actions through one of its characters. The notion of an endless war isn’t particularly captivating, and I suspect repeatedly waking up each day to engage in violence and sexual assault would quickly become tiresome. The appeal usually comes from the feeling of defying restrictions and being unique because you're doing something others can’t. Typically, only a single character experiences the loop since it becomes humorous when multiple individuals are caught in the cycle ("Paradise Falls" handles this well), but this movie doesn't capitalize on that potential for enjoyment. What could have been a funny, entertaining, and remarkable film is diminished by its attempts to be bleak and gritty, which weren’t truly necessary. Often, those elements add depth and impact to a film, yet I found them draining. The darkness didn’t significantly alter the plot, and the inclusion of rape felt like an unnecessary tactic to illustrate the character's descent from acceptable behavior. Despite these issues, I do believe this is a worthwhile movie; my disappointment stems from its failure to reach greatness.
