_Renfield_ manages to be a passable horror comedy, though it doesn’t quite reach its potential given the volume of gore and Nicolas Cage's performance, which is reason enough to see it. The action set pieces lose their appeal as they progress; largely because they all start to feel repetitive. Both the humor and narrative hit an impasse that the creative team seems determined to force upon the audience. _Renfield_ feels like a fast-food horror comedy. It possesses everything needed for something truly great, but its combination of action, jokes, and a fulfilling plot is so off-balance it’s almost unpleasant.
