It doesn't take expertise in equestrian matters to appreciate a horse show, and similarly, you don’t need any special qualifications to recognize a good film. Remember the Night, with Mitchell Leisen at the helm and Preston Sturges responsible for the script, features Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, Beulah Bondi, Elizabeth Patterson, Willard Robertson, and Sterling Holloway in its cast. Friedrich Hollaender composed the music, while Ted Tetzlaff handled the cinematography. This is a really charming story perfect for enjoying during the holidays. The plot centers on Stanwyck as a criminal who finds herself aided by MacMurray, a district attorney who shows her compassion and invites her to his family’s home. As the narrative unfolds, we learn about their pasts, and there's a clear connection between the lead actors. Sturges’ writing brings together humor, romance, and traditional values, while Leisen guides the performers toward excellent portrayals. It’s also worth mentioning that the director avoids sentimentality, maintaining a good sense of balance throughout. It’s definitely a Christmas film everyone should watch. 8/10
