Relay presents an interesting idea at first, and it’s supported by good acting and a captivating feel, though its impact lessens because of some predictable plot devices toward the end. Riz Ahmed demonstrates his skill yet again in roles that are complicated and subtle, while Lily James and Sam Worthington deliver powerful emotion and believability as potential dangers. However, the way things play out doesn't quite live up to what the initial concept suggested. If it had avoided a more contrived conclusion, it could have been among the most memorable thrillers of the year. As it stands, it’s well-made but disappointing, and while it should be acknowledged for the concepts explored, there’s also disappointment in the chances missed. Rating: B-
