It’s like there are countless versions of reality, so distinct that you can inflict serious damage without consequence. It felt like just another woman venting about a creep before vanishing entirely. The show falters somewhat when Rick secures Morty, and they have to perform—the writing feels awkward, especially considering it came from two male directors, lacking any real depth or portrayal of strong female characters. Despite that, there are some genuinely interesting ideas here, and I appreciated certain aspects quite a bit. The antagonist isn't excessively gruesome torture-porn; instead, he’s disturbingly enthusiastic about killing. He murders women in elaborate and brutal ways, but not over the top. Rick also commits some effective killings herself. Her character is presented as someone for whom murder is an active decision rather than something learned. She has a firearm and uses it—and it's a pretty neat gun too. I believe Rick delivers a solid performance. Morty can be irritating, though that’s just being Morty. I tuned in primarily because of the ridiculous title, but I think it ultimately exceeded what that silly name promised.
