I approached this film with some preconceived notions, having already watched HBO’s *Tuskegee Airmen*, which was exceptionally well-done—the acting was superb, and the storyline really grabbed you. Because of that prior experience, I'm aware this review might be a bit slanted. When put next to the earlier HBO film, *Red Tails* only manages to have slightly better special effects. Otherwise, it falls short: the narrative is weaker, the plot isn’t as engaging, and the performances aren't nearly as strong. Even allowing for creative license, the historical accuracy feels lacking. It seems more focused on a romantic subplot than on telling the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. It substitutes visual effects for genuine dramatic tension. You’re better off finding that older HBO movie from the nineteen nineties.
