I must admit, I felt let down by this film. It turned out to be surprisingly average and very much like a typical Hollywood production. The best aspects are undoubtedly the aerial sequences and the visual effects; they're entertaining and executed adequately. However, those elements essentially comprise the movie’s few redeeming qualities. A considerable portion of it doesn't feel grounded in reality. For example, the German anti-aircraft weaponry appears largely ineffective throughout. There's also a sequence where one P51 fighter, equipped only with machine guns, destroys an armed German warship in just two passes—that seemed far-fetched. The film often leans too heavily into Hollywood drama tropes. Some of the pilots act foolishly, and realistically, they would have been shot down much sooner. The inclusion of alcohol struggles and a romantic subplot seems designed to cater to American soap opera fans. Overall, it’s quite superficial; without the substantial budget and special effects, it easily could have been made for television. Throughout most of the film, I found myself fighting sleep, only perking up when the aerial action began so I could enjoy the visuals.
