Kate Dickie portrays Jackie, whose work involves overseeing numerous CCTV cameras that monitor the city throughout the night. Her job mainly consists of observing people like intoxicated individuals returning home or watching for criminals who roam Glasgow’s streets alongside foxes scavenging in discarded areas. One morning, while on duty, she notices a couple engaged in an intimate act against the wall of the Jet garage and believes she recognizes the man. Further inquiry reveals this to be "Clyde," played by Tony Curran. Jackie becomes increasingly fixated on him, and it quickly becomes apparent that she has unresolved issues with him. She devises a rather clever scheme and begins putting into action a sting operation with an unexpected element—one intended to provide her with some resolution and payback for his past actions. The story gradually unveils what transpired, but the presentation avoids portraying it as a straightforward battle between good and evil; instead, it explores themes of redemption and perhaps even forgiveness. Dickie manages to carry the film adequately, though she may have been asked to shoulder too much responsibility, as Curran and Martin Compston’s character, "Stevie," don't contribute significantly to the screenplay or character development, which moves at a deliberate pace. While this might reflect the monotony of her job, it doesn't justify imposing that on an audience eager to understand the relationships between the characters. There are some explicit sexual scenes, but they aren’t exploitative; rather, they’re integral to the progression of her plan and function effectively. It also highlights how easily one can create a story that seems believable to many people while being entirely fabricated. Cutting twenty minutes and concentrating more on the two main characters—and their history—would improve it; even as it stands, however, it's a dark and engaging exploration of limits, deceit, and vengeance.
