Chicago should be on alert—Arnie and Jimmy are running wild. Captain Ivan Danko, portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, is a stern Soviet police officer tasked with apprehending a Russian drug dealer who’s committed murder. Once he arrives in Chicago, Danko is partnered with Art Ridzik (James Belushi), a street cop known for taking shortcuts to complete his assignments. These two men couldn't be more different, yet they forge an unexpected partnership as Danko’s disciplined Soviet approach combines with Ridzik’s relaxed and intuitive methods. While the buddy-cop movie was common in the 1980s—the pairing of contrasting police officers wasn’t a fresh concept when *Red Heat* came out—it still manages to be an entertaining, violent, and humorous film despite its reliance on familiar tropes and somewhat dated jokes about Russians and Americans. The combination of Schwarzenegger's imposing presence with Belushi's distinctly American style proves very effective. It can occasionally feel rough around the edges, but Belushi’s confident attitude works wonderfully against Schwarzenegger’s stiff demeanor, creating comedic moments. All this unfolds amidst a backdrop of violence and murder orchestrated by director Walter Hill, who is essentially continuing the approach he pioneered in 1982 with *48 Hrs.* The supporting cast deserves recognition as well, including Peter Boyle, Ed O'Ross, Laurence Fishburne, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Brion James, and Gina Gershon—all contributing to the energy between Schwarzenegger and Belushi. It’s also a plus that Hill filmed on location in Illinois and Moscow, adding visual interest to the film, while James Horner’s score is suitably grand and fitting for the tone. It's easy to recognize this as pure escapism, because that's exactly what it is. However, within its buddy-cop structure lies a very memorable movie that fans of Arnie and Jimmy should definitely see. Sometimes that’s all you could ask for from a film like this. 7/10
