A wealthy couple from Chicago, portrayed by Ryan Phillippe and Rachelle Lefevre, journeys to San Juan with the intention of adopting a young girl who became an orphan following the earthquake in Haiti. The initial period while they await official paperwork passes without incident, but then events take a dark turn. John Cusack takes on the role of a welcoming neighbor, and Luis Guzmán appears as a police chief. “Reclaim,” released in 2014, is presented as a drama that evolves into a crime thriller with elements of a jungle adventure—though somewhat loosely so—and benefits from the beautiful scenery of Puerto Rico, a strong ensemble cast, and an increasingly absorbing narrative. The performance given by Cusack is reason enough to see it. Some have noted predictable aspects or questionable plot points, such as the scene on a precipice and the inclusion of a child wielding a firearm; however, for what it aims to be, it largely succeeds.
