It’s certainly an improvement over *'Recess: All Growed Down,'* though *'Recess: Taking the Fifth Grade'* remains somewhat of a slog to get through. The movie includes several separate narratives, and while they do feel more connected this time around, it still isn't entirely smooth. The voice cast is familiar—reliable but not particularly striking. The animation quality is acceptable. It’s comparable in quality to *'Recess Christmas: Miracle On Third Street,'* though it doesn't reach the heights of *'Recess: School’s Out.'* I really don’t see why they didn’t opt for three original stories, like they did with the first film. Putting together separate tales feels like a shortcut to me. These aren’t films I expect to watch again anytime soon, but apparently my opinion is in the minority since they have fairly good scores on various sites. Everyone has their own tastes, of course!
