A spirited princess has feelings for Ronan, who’s a little awkward, but her father is more worried about finding someone strong enough to protect the kingdom and prefers a tougher match for his daughter. This might be Rogdai, a local muscleman similar to Gaston from "Beauty and the Beast." Before they can decide on anything, the evil sorcerer Kezabor sends a dragon to take the princess, and in his desperation to get her back, the king pledges her hand to whoever rescues her. Ronan, Rogdai, and Fa Chan, who seems constantly overshadowed by his mother, then embark on some adventures to locate the sorcerer’s castle and hopefully save her from something terrible. There's nothing new here, but it doesn't seem to be trying to pretend otherwise. We see references to familiar tales like "Rapunzel," as well as many mythical creatures, demonstrating that being brave isn't always about size or strength. The Arabian Nights feel works okay for ninety minutes, accompanied by bright animation—lots of large eyes and exaggerated figures—and the story provides precisely what you’d anticipate. It’s a well-made tale that should entertain children watching on television during Christmas, but it is all rather ordinary and won't stick with you for long. There’s something positive about seeing a girl display power with turbans.
