I sat through at least half an hour hoping for something to occur, for anything to get going. When events finally unfolded, they weren't particularly captivating. From that point on, it felt like a vehicle with its accelerator jammed – forward motion, then stagnation, repeating until the last portion of the movie, when something noteworthy “finally” takes place. I suspect many viewers will have already walked away by then. I suppose I’m just an overly hopeful person. I keep wondering why Netflix can't provide better writing. Is it possible that you're preoccupied with pushing a particular agenda? There's dialogue where a character mentions lynching the central figure, and in response, the protagonist observes that the Black police officer has a less impressive vehicle than her white colleagues. It’s true that I think there is an actual issue with policing, and it isn’t limited to the United States. The numbers show that more White Americans are killed by law enforcement annually compared to Black individuals, so it's reasonable to state that this is a concern for “everyone.” However, like many others, I turn to entertainment as a way to avoid the world’s suffering and contentious political climate, rather than have it constantly presented to me. Initially, Rebel Ridge appeared to possess all the qualities of a modern-day Rambo-like action film with a talented ensemble cast. I was genuinely looking forward to it, but what I got was a disappointing, preachy result.
