It seems like John Boyega was initially intended to play the main character, but Aaron Pierre ended up with the part, which turned out well because I found him very good in the role. I’m looking forward to seeing him take on more action parts going forward. There were three aspects of the film that stood out to me beyond the action sequences. First, they establish this character as a former marine through the tagline, but initially present him as being involved in questionable activities—and I'm not just talking about his initial detention. That was entertaining. As someone who identifies as an anti-theist, I appreciated the line: "I don't know enough about the afterlife to trust in it, so while I'm here, [...] I gotta haunt these motherfuckers myself." It really resonated with me. Finally, the ending worked well; they built anticipation for it throughout several scenes and I liked seeing how it unfolded. Hopefully, that was vague enough to avoid giving anything away. I started out wanting to give this 8 stars with a favorite designation, but to balance those seemingly arbitrary one-star ratings, I’m settling on a score of 10. I can see the merit in ratings of 5 stars or higher, but I don't understand the lower scores. I just like movies and I'm not a film critic; it has nothing to do with prejudice.
