James Stewart portrays a photographer confined to his home, and he passes his time watching what goes on around him. He begins to suspect one of his neighbors when the wife vanishes and the husband—played by Raymond Burr—begins behaving strangely, taking nighttime trips and making lengthy phone calls. Grace Kelly, who is his girlfriend, finds this whole situation a bit too intrusive, but she gets pulled into his growing suspicion and becomes involved in his inquiries, which ultimately reveal a complex conspiracy. Thelma Ritter shines as "Stella," and Wendell Corey does well as "Det. Doyle."
