Samara Weaving portrays “Grace,” who believes her marriage to “Alex” (Mark O’Brien) will be a peak moment in her life. The wedding festivities take place at his family's large estate, culminating in a small dinner where “Tony” (Henry Czerny) reveals that it's customary for them to play a game—hide and seek. This is no ordinary game; it’s a deadly one with "Grace" as the intended target. After her husband attempts to intervene, he finds himself restrained while she, still wearing her wedding dress, must evade capture and escape from what awaits her. The family members pursue her using various weapons, but firearms and security cameras are off-limits. Fortunately for “Grace,” “Dan” (Adam Brody) isn’t entirely enthusiastic about the game, which might offer her a glimmer of hope. Weaving's performance brought to mind Margot Robbie as her character adjusts to her dangerous circumstances, and what follows proves surprisingly enjoyable, featuring amusing performances from those in pursuit—"Becky" (Andie MacDowell) and "Charity" (Elyse Levesque). The film is visually appealing, maintains a good rhythm after an uneven beginning, and the house’s many hidden passages create a suitable setting for the unfolding events. It possesses a stage-like quality that works well as it leads to a satisfying resolution. While not laugh-out-loud funny, it's worth investing ninety minutes in and is superior to more recent films with similar aesthetics, like "Knives Out."
