Disney, like other companies, has faced pressure to release both a significant amount of material and content meeting a certain standard. It seemed there was a demand for something original within the Disney catalog, moving beyond remakes of older properties, and I think Raya offered a positive moment for them. The way they managed to keep the familiar, appropriate tone for families while still creating animation that resonates with audiences felt remarkable. To avoid giving too much away, I’ll just say that Raya's story is both uplifting and encouraging. This feels like a success for Disney and anyone who decides to watch it.
