Those are harsh words—someone’s paying for past actions. John Irvin directed Raw Deal, with a screenplay by Luciano Vincenzoni, Sergio Donati, Gary DeVore, and Norman Wexler. The cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kathryn Harrold, Sam Wanamaker, Paul Shenar, Robert Davi, and Ed Lauter. The story follows a former FBI agent who is now a small-town sheriff; he consents to assisting the FBI chief in infiltrating the Chicago mafia after the FBI chief’s son is murdered by them. It seems like not many remember this film, and it's certainly among Schwarzenegger’s weaker efforts from the 1980s. However, there’s still a good amount of muscle and over-the-top masculinity that makes for an entertaining watch. Schwarzenegger’s dialogue includes some familiar lines, and director John Irvin (Hamburger Hill) delivers some thrilling action sequences. Robert Davi is reliably present, bringing his characteristic charisma to the role of a despicable character. There isn't much substance here; it mainly serves as an opportunity for Schwarzenegger to do what he does best, so expecting anything resembling realism would be foolish. Just put aside your doubts and enjoy yourself. 6/10
