I’d likely have overlooked this title if I hadn’t heard of it, and my initial impression was similar to discovering new video game characters. While I found it enjoyable as an introduction, I didn't particularly love it because it wasn’t really made for me. I understand that many adults appreciated it, but their enjoyment stemmed from familiarity with the source material. What truly stood out was the production value; I couldn’t believe it wasn't on par with animation studios like Disney, Pixar, or DreamWorks. The story itself held it back though—if that aspect had been stronger, it could have easily become one of the best animated films in recent years. I almost wanted to give it a higher rating just based on the quality of the animation alone. The directors and artists deserve recognition for their work; as a child, I would have considered this my favorite film. It’s clear that children will adore this movie—if there were more critics who reviewed films from a child's perspective, it likely would have been better received. However, because critics didn't like it, nor did most adults, families with kids might still find some enjoyment in watching it. While the voice acting featured some well-known performers, that wasn’t enough to guarantee its success. The film lacks originality; every element—the space warriors, the chosen one narrative, the villain, the mad scientist, the betrayals—has been explored extensively elsewhere, from ‘Star Wars’ to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ That's another reason I didn't connect with it as much. It remains a watchable film overall. _5/10_
