This unusual Western centers on a Wyoming ranch worker, Arthur Kennedy, who is driven by vengeance as he hunts down the man responsible for his fiancée’s death, Gloria Henry. His search leads him to an outlaw in the Southwest, portrayed by Mel Ferrer, and together they discover a hidden hacienda—a safe place for criminals under the command of Altar Keane, played by Marlene Dietrich. "Rancho Notorious," Fritz Lang's final Western film from 1952, feels like a stylized ‘B’ movie with limited locations, relying on artificial sets and dark spaces that give it a noir-ish feel. While some might draw parallels to “Johnny Guitar,” this film doesn’t quite reach the same level of quality; the narrative simply isn't as captivating. Despite its shortcomings, there are still enjoyable moments to be found. Dietrich, who was fifty years old during filming, appears remarkably youthful and fit. A humorous scene involving a race where women ride intoxicated men like horses stands out, particularly Altar Keane’s obvious delight at her victory.
